Abstract

The Global Digital Divide is the term used to describe the discrepancy in access to computing and information among communities of the world. This paper describes the factors contributing to the Global Digital Divide and some proposed solutions to it. It then provides original analysis of the impact of the Global Digital Divide in areas such as education, economic growth, and political process and how this inequitable access to computing/technology affects the power of the people in various communities. It is a term paper for my URI CSC101 course, and therefore also shows the relation to the course material.
